Overview of the programme
The MSc in Energy Systems Science and Engineering addresses the critical shortage of expertise needed to develop energy conversion technologies, particularly in Nigeria, West Africa, and across Africa. This program equips students with the knowledge and skills to meet the growing global energy demand while tackling the depletion of resources and the shortage of human capacity. With specializations in Alternative Energy, Energy Informatics, and Power Systems & Electricity Economics, the program covers all components of energy production, conversion, delivery, and use. It aims to become a leading hub for future energy systems experts, focusing on sustainable and affordable energy for economic development.

MSc in Energy Systems Science
B.Sc. Second Class (Lower Division) Honours degree in STEM from Obafemi Awolowo University.
B.Sc. Second Class (Lower Division) Honours degree in STEM from any approved university.
3rd Class Honours degree in STEM with a relevant postgraduate diploma (weighted average score of 60B) and meeting all Postgraduate College regulations.
Five (5) credit passes in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Further Mathematics.
MSc in Energy Systems Engineering

Transforming Energy Access – Learning Partnership in Energy Systems Science and Engineering
On May 26, 2023, the Senate of Obafemi Awolowo University approved a comprehensive suite of postgraduate programmes in Energy Systems Science and Engineering at five level. The programmes are hosted by the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering and coordinated by the Centre for Energy Research and Development. Two of the courses, Mini-Grids: Planning and Design and Local Solutions for Energy Access to be taught at M.Tech and M.Sc. levels are adapted under Transforming Energy Access – Learning Partnership (TEA-LP), a project with the University of Cape Town (UCT), Cape Town, South Africa.
